BACKGROUND

Jacob joined the team at Hazelton Law in 2016 after graduating from Victoria University of Wellington. He has experience in the areas of construction law and resource management law. Jacob has appeared as junior counsel in a number of Environment Court matters and is currently engaged in a number of district and high court construction disputes. He advises on contracts and negligence claims, resource consent applications and renewals, plan changes, and other regulatory matters under the Resource Management Act, Building Act, and other local government legislation.

Jacob is also on the Wellington branch of the Young Resource Management Law Association committee.

Construction Law

  • Acting for a contractor in relation to a prosecution for carrying out building work without consent (2018).
  • Acting for a builder in defending disciplinary proceedings before the Licensed Building Practitioners' board (2018).
  • Acting for both contractors and suppliers in negligence and breach of contract claims.
  • Advising building owners on disputes relating to variations and workmanship issues.
  • Advising Councils and private landowners on earthquake prone buildings, dangerous buildings and other regulatory matters under the Building Act 2004.
